A Personal Journey: Nicole Bills
My name is Nicole Bills, and I’m a life guidance coach and healer. My journey toward mindfulness and meditation began in a place of deep personal struggle. For many years, I lived with a dysregulated nervous system due to several traumatic events in my early childhood. These experiences left lasting imprints on my mental and emotional health, affecting every aspect of my life.
As a child, I often felt overwhelmed by anxiety and stress. My nervous system was in a constant state of high alert, making it difficult to find peace or relaxation. Despite these challenges, I pursued a career in education and family coaching, finding solace in helping others navigate their life challenges. However, as my last child was nearing graduation, I began to realize that I needed to focus on my healing journey.
It was during this transitional period that I stumbled upon Taoism and Mindfulness. Intrigued by the promise of inner peace and balance, I decided to explore these ancient practices further. I enrolled in a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, hoping it could provide the tools I needed to regulate my nervous system and heal from my past traumas.
The impact was profound and immediate. Through mindfulness and meditation, I learned to be present in the moment and observe my thoughts and feelings without judgment. For the first time, I experienced a sense of calm and control over my mind and body.
What is Mindfulness and Meditation?
Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the current moment, aware of your thoughts and feelings without distraction or judgment. Meditation, on the other hand, is a technique often used to achieve mindfulness, involving focused attention and controlled breathing.
Steps to Practice Mindfulness and Meditation:
Set Aside Time: Dedicate 10-20 minutes each day for mindfulness or meditation.
Find a Quiet Space: Choose a quiet, comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed.
Focus on Your Breath: Pay attention to your breathing, noticing each inhale and exhale.
Observe Your Thoughts: Let your thoughts come and go without judgment or attachment.
